After release of the surprising debut, Principe Valiente, band from Scandinavia, return with a captivating successor - "Choirs Of Blessed Youth". Album consists of 11 tracks and it is a strong position of post-punk mixed with the sounds of shoegaze genre.
Fernando Honorato’s voice is low, deep, slightly hoarse, and yet very melodic. The new release brings a lot of space for vocal performances, the more, it opens next part of the stories about unfulfilled feelings, love disappointments, desire to break away from the realm of dreams, willingness to resolve recurring emotions here and now.
Opening the album "The Son I'll Never Be" track introduces to a semi-oneiric atmosphere, where electric guitars playing graceful sounds, are supported by synthesizers, which in turn give the whole composition features that are so characteristic to illustrate an elusive dream.
It is followed by known from issued last year singles "Take Me With You" and "She Never Returned". First one still makes an impression by the use of fast pace from chasing guitars in a rhythm of speeding percussion. Over all dominates almost tearing apart vocal. For contrast, in the subsequent song, there are exposed nicely outlined bass lines, while singing takes on greater relief. Tempo slows down, and calm vocal firmly leads through another splitting heart story.
Then appears "The Dream", in which there is a somewhat dreamy voice, for which background is built by delicate guitars and synthesizer based on hypnotic interludes. In turn "Wasted Time" turns up the pace once again, as long as it is developing story of unfulfilled feeling. Again, you can enjoy way of singing with slightly prolonged syllables.
"The Fighting" fully reflects prevailing climate of exciting, emotional tension, which seems to reach in a moment its boiling point. After it there is the title one "Choir Of Blessed Youth". As instrumental composition, it tones down for a while the unsettling atmosphere.
Whereas "Fiction" provides a portion of inner vibrancy, heating skillfully the voltage. Thrilling now or never, highlights dramatic attempt to break away from the realm of dreams.
This is followed by "Dying To Feel Alive". For a change - low guitars layers, bass advanced at the forefront, rhythm additionally underlined by intense percussion’s work. "Temporary Men" accelerates tempo - moody vocal tightly fills the space, supported by instruments, which are working hard not to remain only the background.
Last one - "Flower In You" is initially quite intimate when it comes to used sound, vocal nicely extends its parts, then comes the change and instruments gain a bit more power, to slow down at the end again, until reaching silence.
"Choirs Of Blessed Youth" from Principe Valiente quartet, is essence of dreams from the border of darkness, where there is no room for total loss of faith and hope for a true love.
