"The Ways of Yore" is the 12th album from Burzum. "The Ways of Yore" is similar in style to Burzum’s pervious ambient albums, but differ in both style and vocal expression. A mix of haunting story telling channeled through distinct vocals combined with Burzum musical genius makes "The Ways of Yore" is a very interesting and innovative sounding album with mass appeal to Burzum fans. Inspired by Burzum's in-depth knowledge of our European history and evolution, "The Ways of Yore" is a continuation of his work to explore our Forebears and to explain our human evolution. Burzum says of the new album: "The Ways of Yore" is my first step towards something new, which at the same time is as old as the roots of Europe. With "The Ways of Yore" I try to transport the listener to the days of yore, to make them feel the past, that is still alive in their own blood.

Less a map of hell and more a detailed exploration. Each of the 9 songs describe a different hellish landscape. A sermon from the mount clothed in sulphur, brimstone and ash. Smog and grime make everything loathsome to touch. Vocals lash out like the biting razors of a polar wind. Expunging the black bile from within and reacting against pollutants from without. Through an air thick with flies the vocals spit forth misanthropy, frustration at a humanity still chained to the institutions of government and organised religion. Bells toll out through the mire signalling end or beginning? It matters not the apocalypse is already here. The creator of this orchestra of chaos is Corvus Rex (Fury 161, Black Crow King, N.D.E.) using an array of scathing sounds and punishing textures, this is sound as catharsis and weapon.

Far from being a typical project in the vein of Brian Eno/Lustmord, Johan Levin, the mastermind behind Desiderii Marginis, has created and developed its own unique sonic palette merging digital and analogue: melancholic electronica with electroacoustic elements and intravenous rhythms. From the early days his music met with positive reactions resulting in albums on renowned the legendary Swedish Cold Meat Industry label, and lately also on Canadian Cyclic Law.
