Ben Frost, that is an Australian living in Iceland; a musician mainly famous for having cooperated with Björk. Today I am about to comment his record from 2006, that is Theory of Machines.
The album sets an example of an exqusitle well-sounding electro-acoustic album! Theory of Machines consists of minimalism, post-rock way of playing, at the same time using diversified effects. While expoliting such a vast variety of possibilities, one can find a harmony, which Ben Frost introduced on his album. It seems that he is a really architect of sounds.
1/3 of the title track is a typical post-rock piece. The sheer copy of God is an Astronaut, Maybeshewill, If These Trees Could Talk or Mogwai...
Theory of Machines fluently passes to another track: Stomp. The piece is a blend of Theory of Machines with suddenly occuring sounds of an electric guitar, distorted by radio waves.
One cannot forget about We love you Michael Gira - here Ben Frost showed how amazingly he can combine tunes.
Coda, on the other hand, is the shortest, but the richest in content piece of sound of the album. It is audible there how the musician interprets noise rock.
The record finishes with Forgetting You Is Like Breathing Water, composed of warm and repetitive tones of everything which resembles string instruments.
I truly appreciate "the fluency" of the album. gentle passages and mingling of one track with another. The whole fuses into a great, gloomy mass. It guarantees over a forty-minute chill out in the company of electronic minimalism.
