Opinions among my friends about Goreghast, which is the side project of Destroyer from Paranoia Inducti, vary. For some of them, it's a weird mash up of sounds coming straight from the keyboard, blowing with a hard wind of boredom. For others, it's an etheral journey in a dark, like the album's name suggests, mood. It is said that everyone has their own opinion and, as a matter of fact, you have to agree with it because the former and the latter are right. This album is uneven. On one hand, we have have a dark ambient atmosphere enriched with synthetic sounds along with vocals played backwards, building a very thick mood. On the other, that mood is ruined in some tracks with the monotony of some fragments, which seem to repeat endlessly. My favorites on this CD are two compositions - the opening track "Lifeless" and the closing "Black Embrace", while the least convincing track in my opinion is the title one - "Nightmares", which is a bit overdone - as if Destroyer had no idea for this track's final atmosphere and struggled between the choices… Unless that's the author's nightmare and an attempt to show it…
To sum it all up: the album isn't very bad, neither is it entirely good - it requires some work. Taking into account that this is the first try, we can only hope that next time we'll hear a definitely better "product", as it does not need that many improvements.

1. Lifeless
2. Time of Dread
3. Forgotten Cremony
4. When Monsters Wake Up
5. Shadows' Song
6. Nightmares
7. Black Embrace
