The year 2010 was a fertile one for Iszoloscope fans. New LP, followed by two discs with remixes and a few tracks previously released as singles or on various compilations, was indeed a hefty portion of music. And despite the fact that I’m not the biggest fan of remixes of any sort, I have to admit that "‘Beyond Within’ and ‘Beyond Within and so on’ are truly worthy of attention. However, this time I’m going to focus on the new material Iszoloscope prepared on ‘The Edge of Certainty’.
The music which the Canadians have created so far has always had a dark atmosphere and with ‘TEOC’ it’s no different. Dark ambient parts intertwine with industrial, which blends with rhythm noise joined by breakcore. Huh, quite a medley, but the ending effect is simply great. If this was not enough, the first track, ‘First Transcendental Component’, adds martial industrial to the combination (thanks to the contribution from Norad), which results in a track reaching epic heights, with an atmosphere of ubiquitous uneasiness giving me goose bumps every time I listen to it. What follows is a classic Iszoloscope, which is a best quality mixture of elements I have already mentioned. My no.2 on the LP is ‘In the Face of Descent’, with samples from the film ‘Joe Black’, which evolves into a rhythm noise tune. A sweet tune, if I may add. Samples are not new to the music of Iszoloscope, quite the contrary, the band often adds them to their tunes which only adds up to the already delicious sounds served by ‘The Edge of Certainty’ and Iszoloscope as a whole.
Frankly, it would be enough to say that Iszoloscope released a brilliant album, and anyone who values musical variety and working consistency should listen to it. You won’t be disappointed, just like I have never been.
