Like a good old Joy Division, this release drags in a fully conscious way into a reality of overwhelming feelings, that can break the inwardness of the audience. The opening track of this record "Rose of Flesh And Blond" already gives a pretty good kick. Adequate tones, well-considered lyrics and additionally the vocal…Airton S doesn’t lack charisma – he has a warm, almost narcotic, ear – catching voice.
Energetic punk sound reminds of the roots of this group, with the interesting combination of gothic style with elements of punk rock, which are not always successful, but here everything seems to be a good choice that resulted in creation of "Affects".
The album of Plastique Noir is no doubt interesting and quite varied, there is a place for sentimental tracks like "Sin Hunter" and for almost romantic pop tunes as "I Disappear".
In "Other Spheres" the band in an offhand manner wrings out from the piano the whole spectrum of such tones which are suitable to picture an aspect of a hopeless spiritual situation in hardest.
"Mara Hope" recalls recordings from the early 80’s, this unique, elusive and yet yearning atmosphere, idly found in contemporary music productions.
A bonus track is a very sensual composition, emotional and balanced, which makes a magnificent ending of the disc.
All in all, this album is unusually intimate, sometimes nostalgic, but including everything, that a potential listener misses when he turns on the radio. Among other albums it marks out by a simple message, perhaps even naive, but reaching straight to the heart.
The band members managed to create a fully mature material, which consists of different surprises, changes of pace that are being a canva of fascinating tracks, that can amaze with every listening.
Who knows, maybe thanks to such artists, Brazil will no longer be associated only with Sepultura.
