This is the first full-length album of the Australian band formed in 2008 called Razorfade. Their work include already one EP called "Liberation". I would like to remind that the duo consists of respectable members as famous to all and sundry - Mark Tansley (ex Suspiria i Intravenus) and Clifford Ennis in the role of a singer (ex guitarist of IKON, ex vocalist of Jerusalem Syndrome and Subterfuge). "This clear shining" that is 13 tracks maintained in dark alternative/electro convention introduces some light and hope (as it was promised) into the gothic underworld which was lately fossilized. Despite the fact that, Razordfade based mainly on already known (and liked) music solutions which sound similar to Clan of Xymox, Apoptygma Berzerk or Assemblage 23 with a dash of Sisters of Mercy, the music they served doesn’t make an impression of derivative or dull. Just the opposite: catchy melodies generously spiced up by electronic, gloomy atmosphere and typical of such productions deep voice are stimulating stagnant circulation and a man start to jiggle around the beat of the music unconsciously. In my opinion, "Chemical Distraction" deserves to be called "the floorkiller" of this album. Impetuosity and captivating energy of this track has take over my player and what’s worse, it refuses to leave. In turn, "Fear is rising" on account of paying a tribute to classic compositions, well-known from 90s which means small doses of electronic should satisfy admirers of more conservative music. The role of guitar leads should be highlighted (f. ex. "Walking on the water" or "Horizon") which intensify disturbing atmosphere of the album. Additionally, "The razor fades" and title "Clear Shining" deserve attention because their nostalgic mood perfectly fit into the autumn aura. The lyric layer isn’t particularly innovative but it isn’t shallow. It contains bitter reflections on surrounding world and discuss rather dark spheres of life and human’s nature which is gothic standard. As for me, "This clear shining" is an album of magnetic attraction which is impossible to pass over indifferently. Without a doubt, it’ll quench not only fans of classic gothic from 80s but also the electronic maniacs.

I recommend this production to those who search for a change after wistful and longish compositions – succumb to Razorfade’s hypnotic influence!
