Clunk Crash Bang Smash – is the best and shortest way to describe the music, which has been served to their fans for six years now by Angelspit – an Australian duo of enthusiasts for bridled musical chaos. Characteristically industrial rawness of sounds, catchy melodies, uncompromising lyrics and, first of all, skilfully dosed noise compose "Hideous and Perfect", the newest release of the group.
It’s loud and without ceremony. In twelve songs Destroyx andi Zoog prezent, in an original, typical way of them, industrial-electronic interpretation of reality. An opening song of the album, Ditch the Rest, makes a perfect beginning. The piece excellently defines the idea of cyber punk, combining insi de itself dynamics, literally crackled sounds of guitars and agressive drums. Cold Hard Cash doesn’t allow breathing space, additionally bewitching with deceptively sweet and melodic vocal; Fink enchants with hypnotising voice Destroyx; Fuck the Revolution attacks with garage riffs. The one deserving special attention is Sleep Now, an apparently calm song, however in fact uninterrupidly pulsing with plurality of mutually completing each other synthetic sounds, which are filled up with distressing half-whispers of Zoog. In Princess Chaos the two musicians are vocally supported by Donna Lynch from Ego Likness, which adds a dose of temporary subtleness, delicateness to the song. The strongest, in my view, point of an album is As It Is In Heaven – a perfect connection of violent beats with distorted sounds and shivery voice of Zoog. There’s no way to describe at once essences of all the tracks, however each of them contains a unique element typical for the music of Angelspit.
The lyrics are filled with irony, and pathos mixes with vulgarism, ideally soldering together with controlled chaos of sounds. The CD’s graphic binding surely deserves the name of a little artwork in its category, greatly expressing the feel of industrial esthetics of the band and giving evidence of their creativity.
"Hideous and Perfect" is quintessence of Angelspit’s sound – typically raw tone, full of expression vocal parts, cracks, clatters, crunches and melodies as an admixture, have become earmarks of this band’s music. The newest album doesn’t bring anything revealing and innovating to the band’s artwork, but confirming the fact that Angelspit have earned their own, characteristic sound, which they consistently keep, which must certainly make their fans glad. The CD, and the whole discography is worth getting familiar with, I entourage to do so in order to fully understand the meaning of the cyber punk idea.
