By chance I found a song from the new album by post-punk legends Artery on youtube. It was "Unfaithful Girlfriend". Impressed by this song, I was glad to be given the possibility to review their latest album Civilisation.

At the first listen through this album I have to admit that I have been a little bit disappointed. Every song seemed to sound the same. But I thought, there must be more.
My opinion changed a little after the third listen. Sometimes you need more time to get into a song. Artery didn't reinvent the wheel, neither in the 80s, nor in 2011, but they have this strong bass, noisy guitars and atmospheric keyboards, which are so typical for post-punk and sound good. Maybe the only thing you really need to get used to are the vocals of the singer. I think it is one of those either-you-love-it-or-you-hate-it-things. If you are in the first group, you might enjoy their new album.

However, the album Civilisation is in itself not very diversified. Maybe it is better to see the disc as a whole.

Real outstanding songs are only "Unfaithful Girlfriend", which is really very good (!), and the title track "Civilisation". The other songs may have their moments, but won't make it to my standard play list.
At least it is nice to see that old post-punk legends are still coming out of their hideouts sometimes to keep the spirit of the 80s alive.
