The beginning of the album is a wonderful introduction to a world of magic and long lost tales of human secrets. I am not sure whether it's a story of a man trying to figure out his way, or a tragical tale of immateriality of one's body, the 'wraithness' of it all. As you can see it's really hard to tell, as the song titles don't suggest a lot. They are too overt, not saying anything at the same time... My imagination was stimulated too unclearly. How much does the title "Czarci róg" (The Devil's Horn) connect to the melody of the fifth track? Neither I, nor my imagination could find a devil's horn in there. It's not a matter of disappointment, but rather of discontinuity, incongruity as such. I think one has to be pretty consistent when dabbling with this kind of music. And it's bordering on dark ambient...
It's only my personal opinion, but I'm quite sure that when I close my eyes trying to follow Infamis, I can't grasp the ideas they want to convey with the titles. And I must say, I'm not the only one thinking like that. To avoid being labelled as someone who is bickering all the time, I must admit that the music is great! Although I have to give more corresponing titles to the songs myself, allowing me to keep in mind an image accompanying this healthy dose of good music. Mortiis and Profanum can rest assured - they've got a good follow-up!
In my opinion, the LP is a rich representation of the music of the Road, a story without an end. The harmony of all songs is ordered along the motiff of a ceaseless, monotonous march, a trek leading through seas and fields (never mind the lands we're passing, it's the walking that's important). The vision of a mage on the serpenting road to the abandoned ruins of hazy memories. "Wherever you set your foot, you find yourself on a hundred paths" - indeed, the music illustrates this sentence from an Indian book. You walk and walk, the road getting longer with each track. A great effect, spreading an unimaginable image of the world of metamorphose by musical means, along with the passing in the cycle of life. Track number 8, "Batailles nocturnes" and the first track, "Upiór", melt these elements artistically into a living world of melodies. "Adoratorzy bezmocy" is a great theatrical presentation of the story. Altogether, it's a wonderful representation of my favourite motiff of things happening in music. I must say that only a few can tell a tale using sound...
