After mixing Black and white we got Grey, the same happened with "grey" album "Impressions" that is a mix of compositions that didn’t appear neither on Black " Lunatic Soul " 2008 nor White " Lunatic Soul II " 2010.
Both the cover and sound of the album is Grey. Since first sounds we can hear a soothering simplicity and the characteristic space od industrial music. This time the voice of Mariusz Duda is only a background for rythmic, electronic sounds that connect with the guitar, the piano and other instruments. There appear sounds of the sea, clock ticking and a rustling of thumbing sheets of paper. Those echoes give an outline to what is sung. But the simplicity seems to be mistaken. The band surprises with the amount of the effects and the variety of presented music landscapes. The album starts nicely and quietly but the third composition is a 7-minutes ambient-rock anthem. In fifth you Just wait till the computer rythm will be drown ouy by the normal instruments. At the end there is " Impression VIII". An inspiring melody seems to be cheerful but suddenly it stops so that resound again. These three climaxes are interchanged with light and melancholic songs that make the whole album sounds coherent and soft.
But the album doesn’t end here. Except eight " Impressions" there are two remixes " Gravestone Hill" and " Summerland". Personally I think that the last two don’t go with the whole idea of the album. They are too noisy and the voice of the vocalist spoil the "dreamlike" atmosphere. So I always turn a CD player off two songs before the end.
The album "Impressions" is a pleasant journey into a music Word of Mariusz Duda. The two lastrecords and an artistic photo session make it complete, understandable and full. The album seems to be really ambitious, especially if we compare it to previous achievements of Riverside’s frontman and " Lunatic Soul". "Impressions" is the most impressive after the first listening, then it’s mood isn’t that strong. But I have to admit that it’s a very good soundtrack for autumn-winter strolls. So, put the headphones on and have a nice walk.
