This time, in the Blue Note on a Saturday played innovative Polish bands - Forma and Thesis before the star of the evening - Tides From Nebula.
Forma – is a progressive music, also named by a group members as a "postal rock", a combination of different sounds sometimes from a relatively remote areas, however among other formations it is distinguished by the fact, that these three musicians made a trio, where everyone is a singer, guitarist and keyboardist.
During their performance the band gave a brilliant show of their skills, creating almost immediately good contact with the audience, which bounced along with the first tones of music. The sound was intense and firm for the entire 30 minutes, and each of the spectators will probably enjoy their next concert in Poznan. Playing independent, where the emphasis is on a heavy, dirty sound, so different from the tones that characterize the recordings invented in the studio, moreover the pulsating bass lines and a great fun of the artists during the making of the music, are the characteristic features of the formation.
An example of the distance to themselves and a peculiar sense of humor of musicians is the fact, that during the concert on the stage there was a largely sized cock.
Another group that the people gathered on that evening had a chance to familiarize with, was Thesis. The project coming from the edges of post rock and progressive rock, uses in its work both clean vocals and metal growling, was fully able to arouse an interest. In the beginning they started rather timidly, but with each piece they more and more went into a full swing, and the last compositions were a demonstration of a true rock music. Spatial compositions, spiced with a pinch of psychedelic, alternative approach in combining the sounds and vocals, the creating of their structures in a base of commonly known atmosphere in different varieties of rock is quite interesting. Particularly absorbing fell out the guitars, which smoothly pass from the quiet, almost muted arrangements to the broken, melancholic tones, even raging across the melodic lines. This concert was special for the band’s singer, because in the audience for the first time were his parents. It could be felt by everyone, that the emotional blast was all the more strengthened. The whole show was the involving event, because each change of moods and differentiation of feelings contained in it was a good introduction for subsequent artists.
Hardly any group can boast that their record production was taken up Zbigniew Preisner. Edition of the disc made by the Mystic label is also a kind of ennoblement. But what is interesting the most, is the fact how this band that is playing only instrumental, would come out live.
Between edited 2 years ago debut - "Aura" and "Earthshine," which was released this spring, it seems that light-years have passed. From the artists associated with the sublime, spatial playing musicians from Tides From Nebula allowed to acknowledge themselves from a more professional side. And it also concerns the concerts.
Strong entry from the very first bars that sounded heralded, that the band came to give their all and grab the audience.
Extremely lively music, what is more the poignant performance, resulted in the intense contact with the spectators. Very energetic play, using existing instruments to the ground, to all the play by themselves, was what everyone waited for. The unique dynamics of individual tracks, surprising passages and the transition from a spherical landscapes full of emotions that have been presented during the show, to the incredible sound walls of guitars, pulsating riffs, reinforced by heavy drums, was like a real ride without using hands. Novelty in the form of employing keyboards at the time of building the right mood went well too. At sometimes it was sleepy, pleasant to the ears, and then followed a transition to a grim ritual of painting extreme, fascinating feelings, which in that original rock edition had a nature of the elevated, almost mystical experience. That is how a new dimension in a progressive music is born, where the atmosphere is built from the beginning to the end by the consignment of instruments, that fill the area by dark sounds, striking, sounding often metal.
An excellent performance, very atmospheric, showed that the Tides From Nebula feel good, both in a melodic as well as in a more ambient form. And live contact with their creativity enables to become acquainted with the volcano of stage energy.
