On "Pure" Gary Numan has definitively proved who is the boss. He’s not a depressed heretic anymore – now he’s the dark messiah himself, what we can already see on the great album cover (Numan has finally ended with his silly photos). For most of his life, Gary composed easy listening, poppy music – now he decided to make up for all those years. The charge of darkness and depression carried by this album can overwhelm in the first place. Just after few times we can finally see, that those are really nice songs after all. Just like the opening, title track – begins with a sad piano motive and smoothly changes into a hard, bombarding riff. "Hey bitch, this is what you are - purified, sanctified, sacrificed" – the chorus shows true rock claws. Just as single "RIP" or filled with regret and energy "My Jesus". But not only hard guitars decide about sound of the album – also Gary’s vocals are aggressive, filled with anger. The musician attacks Christians once again for their blind belief as well as God himself, who let him down so many times. That’s what one of the most touching songs is about - "A Prayer For The Unborn" – where Numan bears a grudge against God, because he let his unborn daughter die:
"So, I begged... / But you were far away. / Saving souls perhaps? (...)If you are my shepherd / Then I'm lost and no one can find me".

Also the most beautiful ballad in whole Numan’s career, "Little InVitro", raises similar theme:
"I can't believe / That you're gone and we're alone / I can't believe / That we'll never see your face (...) How in the world can we ever smile again?".

There’s also a wonderful ballad "One Perfect Lie" – it’s emotional charge is maybe smaller, but it’s still touching. It’s worth noticing, that Numan has composed on "Pure" his first instrumental in years - "Fallen". An industrial masterpiece. "Pure" is definitely Numan’s greatest work in his whole career. It has no weak moments, the whole album is filled with emotions and soul-stirring tracks. Shame on you, if you don’t know it
