Schneewittchen is a duo consisting of Marianne Iser and Thomas Duda. They started off 14 years ago in Hildesheim, Germany. Their 2008 album ‘Perlen vor die Saue’ is a great dark cabaret, deliberately exaggerated and theatrical, crossing the boundries between many musical genres. On top of that, the promo photo session for the album is really amazing. Colourful, agrresive, sexy and dark, immersed in camp aesthetics and perfeclty matching the content of the album.

The works of this excentric duo bring to mind old German fairy tales, filled with blood and darkness, as well as with the baroquean fascination with death. The singers voice is very similar to that of Nina Hagen, back in her heyday. Marianne definetly has a talent in singing and she knows how to do it well. She is also a guide for her listeners, accompanying them as they go from small, smoky cabaret stages to a macabre gothic opera. Having that in mind, it’s completely understandable why the press compares her to Klaus Nomi.

But it is Thomas Duda who is responsible for the duo’s unique musical style. He’s a (and I’m not afraid to call him that) a postmodernistic composer, who fills his works with elements characteristic to classical music, EBM and pop-rock.

‘Perlen vor die Saue’ is a perfect fairy tale for all you (goth) children out there.
