German 'The Pussybats' have chosen the beginning of the year for the premiere of their first album. The beginning of each year is the time when we all look for new challenges, new directions and new paths. Before an official release of the record forecasts were saying that it's going to be something revolutionary and that made me extremely curious of what I am going to hear on 'Famous Last Songs'. A musical revolution was indicated also by released in June band's first single 'No Romeo', which muddled the minds of fans of gothic music. Did all those speculations become true? The record is difficult to name and put into one drawer in a musical chest of drawers and this is because every single track can influence different listeners; it is a good way to attract the hearer. Fast alternative-rock tracks are entwined with romantic ballads. A beat and a melody are to be found. The atmosphere is turned up by a peculiar Villy Valo's type of vocal, which is mastered with incredible ease by Sin van Sin. For sure the first plan in all tracks takes a sound of a guitar, once by a lead guitar, once by a bass guitar. Also, I need to mention appearing 'guests' like a piano or a women's voice, which you can hear in the last track. It is Leandra, don't be mislead by her gentle voice, she's an artist floating with ease around the electro-industrial musical scene. A far-famed track 'No Romeo', sounds quite good, but being more subjective I would say that it probably could have been better. On the first place, I would definitely put the third track 'Your Women'- pure dark rock'n'roll, right behind it comes number four a bit calmer 'In April'. Do I hear there a total rebellion? a good fun? Or maybe it is an order to stand in front of a mirror and perform wildly with a chain attached to your trousers? For sure I can hear there emotions and feel the work that have been put into creating this record.

Such a mature and clever debut but could it be a beginning of a new musical craze? I would be careful with using this type of statement…
