Published in 2008 ‘Hearts for Bullets’ is definitely a big step forward for Jennifer Parkin. From the very beggining the difference between Ayria’s previous albums and her most recent one is clearly visible. This is certainly thanks to Sebastian Komor’s participation in the production process, where he brought the experience he gaine when cooperating with Icon of Coil and Zombiegirl. Technically-wise, ‘Hearts for Bullets’ is definetly a new and better Ayria.

But the production quality is not all that has improved. Jennifer finally showed that ‘the kitty has claws’. I did miss that a bit in her previous albums. The music is livelier, but at the same time still catchy. That’s probably due to Parkin’s recent infatuation with Nitzer Ebb. Realtively short tracks aren’t burying the listener beneath a flood of different melodies. They all base on some simple yet catchy themes. A precisely because of that, this is a perfect music for everyone who likes to go rampage on a dancefloor.

At the same time, despite that certain minimalistic approach to music, lyrics stay as witty as they were on Ayria’s previous albums. This way ‘Hearts for Bullets’ is that special something, that you can not only dance to but also listen to all alone.

Also worth noting is the fact, that Jennifer really improved her already impressive vocal abilities. Ayria’s singing was always far from ordinary, but on her newest album, she really showed skill, that many singers in electro-focused bands simply lack.

The album was neatly published and included graphics by DestroyX, who isn’t just Angelspit singer and musician, but also a photographer, graphic and cosmetic designer. So, needless to say, the effect of her involvemnt is really quite stunning.

‘Hearts for Bullets’ is also available as 2 CD deluxe edition, which deserves a few words of comment as well. The bonus CD isn’t made up from remixes (which is all to often the case in the electro genre), but it’s filled with covers recorded by Parkin and tracks by other musicians, where Jennifer featured. In my opinion, such a non-standard move only makes the whole album more exceptional in the genre.

Concluding, ‘Hearts for Bullets’ is a gem, that will satisfy even those more picky electro fans. It’s a catchy and witty piece of art, that will sound inside your head long after you turned off your CD player and make you move your body involuntarily to the rythm.
